To encourage Research & Development activities amongst the students, the IRD Unit invites proposals every year in the month of January from the Undergraduate Students of IIT Delhi. The guiding spirit behind SURA project is to encourage students to think and innovate. The students should take initiative in identifying, studying and analyzing problems as well as formulating solutions. Under this scheme, students are required to submit the project proposal in association with identified faculty of the Department/Centre to act as an administrative facilitator and a guide.
|Eligibility:||Only Undergraduate Students (4th Semester) governed by BUGS are eligible for the Award. Students submitting project proposals under SURA should have CGPA of 7.50 or more.|
|Remuneration:||The Award carries remuneration of Rs.1500/- per week per student.|
|Duration:||Eight weeks during summer vacation.|
Proposal may be submitted by a student alone or by maximum of two students. Though more than one SURA proposals may be forwarded through any one faculty member as a facilitator, only one SURA project can be awarded under the facilitation of a faculty member.
Schedule of events concerning SURA
Announcement of invitation of proposals is notified by IRD Unit (during January).
Students are required to submit proposals as per notified schedule in IRD Unit duly forwarded by the facilitator(s) and concerned Head(s) of the Department (during February)
Shortlisting of proposals is carried out by specially constituted evaluation committee(s). The proposals, submitted by students, are reviewed in 2 stages – first based on written proposal document and then based on their presentation. Student group(s), who clear the written proposal review are called for presentation. The student group(s) who clears both the stages are finally shortlisted to work on the projects submitted by them (during March – April).
Announcement of shortlisted proposals is notified by IRD Unit. The students are required to work on their project during summer vacation. They are provided honorarium (Rs.1500/- per week per student) & approved grant (upto a maximum of Rs.25,000/- ) to carry out the proposed research (during April – May).
The students are required to complete their projects as per notified schedule and submit final report in IRD Unit. (during October).
Thereafter, the same evaluation Committee(s) evaluates their progress in the project, and only those students, who are found to have completed their work satisfactorily, are finally awarded. (during November – December)
The successful students can collect their certificates from IRD Unit after submitting the certification through their facilitators that all bills related to the concerned SURA project have been settled (during March – April in the following year)
